What is ‘Carers Respite’?
We assist ‘carers to take a break’ by providing an enjoyable day program for their older family member, friend or neighbour who requires care and assistance.
Our features include:
- Flexible drop off and pickup
- Nutritional meals
- Experienced staff
- Social and leisure activities for clients
- Counselling service for carers
Co-located within Yarra Health Services 283 Church Street Richmond, all ‘Caring Café’ clients are able to utilise the following on site services:
- GP Medical Practice
- Allied Health Team
- Nursing/Wound Management
- Podiatry
- Occupational Therapy
This part of our service aims to relieve working carers of the pressure of medical and allied health appointments which are often during their working hours.
What defines a Carer?
- A family member, friend, or neighbour who provides regular care, support and assistance to a frail person living in the community, without payment, other than the pension or benefit.
- The carer assists with personal care, transport for medical appointments, shopping for groceries etc.
- The carer role can be shared amongst a group of family members or a friend in the community.
- The ‘primary carer’ does not need to live with the care recipient to utilise respite.
The program offers ‘carers’ real flexibility around the hours of service they require and is determined according to ‘carers’ need.
‘In-Home Carer Respite’ is now also available. This incorporates 6 hours per week of ‘in-home care’. We are offering flexibility for this time, i.e. in blocks of 2 hours or perhaps two blocks of 3 hours. This is totally dependent on your individual needs.
